In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education’s Department of Higher Education has launched a new web-portal called YUKTI. This portal aims to monitor and track the initiatives taken by higher education institutions across the country to combat the pandemic and ensure the continuity of education in these difficult times.YUKTI, which stands for Young India Combating COVID with Knowledge, Technology, and Innovation, is a comprehensive and holistic platform that covers all aspects of the COVID-19 crisis. It enables educational institutions and stakeholders to share their best practices, strategies, and innovative solutions, and to collaborate with each other. The primary objective of the YUKTI portal is to identify and address the challenges faced by students, teachers, and other stakeholders in higher education due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also seeks to promote and support the use of technology and innovative solutions to overcome these challenges and ensure the continuity of education in the country. The YUKTI portal is divided into different sections, each addressing a specific aspect of the COVID-19 crisis. These include:1. Academic continuity: This section focuses on ensuring that students can continue their studies through online platforms, and that teachers have the necessary tools and resources to conduct their classes remotely.2. Human resource management: This section covers the management of human resources in higher education institutions, including the welfare of staff and students.3. Research and development: This section provides a platform for researchers and innovators to share their work related to COVID-19, and to collaborate with each other on new solutions.4. Financial resources: This section deals with the financial challenges faced by educational institutions during the pandemic, and provides guidance and support to help them overcome these challenges.5. Internationalisation: This section aims to promote international collaboration and exchange among higher education institutions, and to provide support and guidance on the impact of COVID-19 on international education. The YUKTI portal also provides access to various resources and training materials related to COVID-19, such as guidance on conducting online classes, mental health and wellness resources, and best practices for promoting social distancing and other measures. The launch of YUKTI has been well-received by the higher education community in India, with many institutions expressing their support for the platform and its objectives. Speaking at the launch event, Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, said: “The portal will help in establishing a systematic approach to Covid-19 challenges and will assist in developing a sustainable and resilient education system for the future.”In addition to YUKTI, the Ministry of Education has also launched other initiatives to support higher education institutions during the pandemic, such as the SWAYAM PRABHA DTH Channels, which provide educational content to students who do not have access to the internet, and the PRAGYATA Guidelines for Digital Education, which provide guidance and recommendations on online teaching and learning. As India continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, the launch of YUKTI and other initiatives by the Ministry of Education provide much-needed support and guidance to the higher education community. By promoting collaboration, innovation, and the use of technology, these initiatives are helping to ensure that students and educators can continue to learn and grow, even in these difficult times.
